 Jerry D. Hamilton is the managing shareholder of Hamilton, Miller & Birthisel, LLP. Mr. Hamilton has dedicated his practice to litigation, including commercial litigation, medical and professional malpractice defense, personal injury defense, property and casualty, admiralty and maritime claims, products liability, and mass torts.
Mr. Hamilton was born in Kingston, Jamaica and came to the United States in 1983. He received a B.A. in Business Administration with an emphasis in finance from the University of Miami and obtained his Juris Doctor, with special citation, from the University of Florida. He also holds a Certificate of Legal Education from the University of the West Indies, Norman Manley Law School in Kingston, Jamaica.
Mr. Hamilton is past President and founding member of the Caribbean Bar Association. He has served on the Board of Directors for the Dade County Bar Association since 1998. Mr. Hamilton was appointed to serve on the Judicial Campaign Practices Commission of the Dade County Bar Association which reviews and renders opinions on complaints of inappropriate campaign practices by judicial candidates. He has also served on the Lieutenant Governors Board of Bankers Club since 1999. He was recently voted Best of Bar in South Florida by the South Florida Business Journal.
Mr. Hamilton is very involved in community activities and is often a guest speaker at the University of Miami, Nova University, St. Thomas University and various high schools on topics relating to community service, mentoring and education. He is involved in the United Way, the American Cancer Society, Camillus House and the Miami Project to Cure Paralysis. He is a member of the American Bar Association, National Bar Association, Caribbean Shipping Association, The Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce, The Propeller Club, and the Black Lawyers Association.
His hobbies include golf, racquetball, and traveling.
